The situation
The provider's quality and test management department runs a dedicated team for test management and test automation with Tricentis Tosca. The regression portfolios of several applications had grown on the Tosca Classic engine; the core application, a separate Win32 system, carries more than 1,000 of the most important end-to-end test cases. The goal: move the grown portfolios to TBox, make the regression faster and more robust, and keep the business-critical Win32 front end automatable.
What we did
- Migration of 8,000+ test cases (around 100,000 test steps) from Tosca Classic to TBox modules across several application projects
- Review of test case design during the migration: wrong designs and missing business focus corrected
- Around 30 customizations and custom code to reduce manual effort
- Engine customization for the Win32 core application, maintained and further developed
- Execution optimization of the regression portfolio
- Tosca consulting for the central test automation team, plus follow-up analysis of UIA / Vision AI and support with the qTest selection
Results
- Full regression runtime reduced from 24 hours to 5 hours
- Faster, more robust test cases on TBox modules
- Test case design errors found and corrected during the migration
- Less manual effort through custom code
What transfers to your project
Migrating thousands of test cases while improving their design, and automating a business-critical legacy front end with engine-level customizations, with a measurably faster regression at the end.
